Attendance

At Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Primary school Federation we believe that for children to achieve their full potential they need to attend regularly and punctually. Children should be at school, on time, every day the school is open, unless reason for the absence is unavoidable.

Parents and carers should contact the school on the first day of a pupil’s absence. They should state the reason for their child’s absence and also the date they are expected to return to school.

Please explore the information regarding abscense and attendance.

  • Longer periods of illness, due to chicken pox, flu etc., are expected. However, absences throughout the school year quickly add up to the pupils missing a significant number of days. This is why we are asking parents to consider if their child really needs to miss the time away from school. If your child is feeling under the weather then we ask that you bring them to school to see if they can manage being in school or bring them in a little later.

  • Ring or ask school’s advice if you are unsure. We will always call you if your child is too ill to be at school. Children who are consistently absent with two- or three-day’s illness as a pattern will be asked to come into school to discuss how school can help or address any health concerns.

  • The school day begins at 9am but the school gates open at 8:30 and children can enter the school at 8:45 to be ready for their learning at 9. School gates close at this time so any child entering after this time will need to enter the school by the main entrance, reporting to the office and giving reasons for their lateness.

  • • If dental or GP appointments cannot be held outside of school hours, please could you bring your child to school before and after the appointment if possible.

    • Bring your child to school if they are feeling under the weather or have mild symptoms to see if the distraction of being at school makes them feel better.

    • Seek advice from the office if you are unsure

    • Book all holidays outside of school term dates

  • Please ring the school with your child’s absence.

This year our aim is to achieve 95% attendance or above. We appreciate your support with aiming for this target.
