Here are some special times from Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Primary Federation of schools.

Skipsea students had a fantastic morning on the HSLC 3G pitch playing football. It was very windy but we had a brilliant time - lots of very happy, very tired children asking “When can we do it again?” Huge thanks to HSLC and the sports leaders who helped make today happen ⚽️

We were delighted today to be presented with a cheque from the Hornsea Lions which will go towards upgrading the very old interactive whiteboards across the Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation for Key Stage 2 classes. We are so grateful for the very generous donation and wish to thank them on behalf of our staff and children. This will make a huge difference to our teaching and learning and another exciting development in our schools. Thank you 👏🏼

We have been working hard to revamp our Skipsea EYFS outdoor area. The children talked about and planned the areas they wanted. They helped to sort all of the toys and learning equipment they thought would be useful to them and then had great fun filling our new sheds.
Great teamwork everyone 🥰

HB EYFS have enjoyed learning all about Chinese culture and celebrating the Year of the Tiger by creating their own lantern and by having a selection of Chinese food to try at snack time.

Skipsea EYFS have had great fun celebrating Chinese New Year. We have had a go using chop sticks, learnt Chinese writing, read The Great Race and know it’s the year of the tiger. The children then made their own Chinese dragon and performed their dragon dance to other classes. Excellent work EYFS!

HB KS1 have had another great Science lesson experimenting with light and trying to answer the question: Can you bend light?
They quickly realised that you would need a reflective surface like a mirror to bounce the light off to send it in a different direction.
Light travels in straight lines, it cannot bend but if you use a mirror it can reflect the light where you want it to go!

Skipsea Class 3 are developing their internet research skills. Applying their understanding of indexing from earlier this week, today they are discovering how to ensure they research efficiently AND avoid using incorrect information… a few adjustments are keeping them on their toes as they look for mistakes online! Brilliant learning and understanding of how to use the technology in the world around us safely and efficiently.

Another exciting visitor at Skipsea today- the Marine Conservation Society arrived to take a session about Yorkshire seals. The children learned lots about seals, and the threats they face. A fantastic opportunity to apply the science we have learned earlier in the year!

Skipsea Class 3 had a special virtual visit this week from the award winning author Aoife Dooley.
Aoife’s latest graphic novel “Frankie’s world” is proving very popular at the moment and it was fascinating to ask her about the process of making a graphic novel from start to finish.
She also showed us exclusive early drafts of her characters and sketchbook, and set the children a challenge to create a short graphic story of their own.

Mr Ostler had a great time interviewing children across HB for the different jobs that they would like to do in school. He was very impressed with the standard of the application forms and the way the children conducted themselves during the interviews. The children are excitedly awaiting their letters, which they will receive today, to find out who has been successful.
